French Eco-Score Calculator for Textile Brands

Calculate your French Environmental Cost score automatically using the official Ecobalyse API. Same data you enter for your Digital Product Passport. Control your environmental narrative before October 2026.

October 2026 deadline

From October 2026, third parties can publish environmental cost scores for any textile brand that hasn't calculated their own — using worst-case default assumptions. Calculate your score now to control the narrative.

What is the French Environmental Cost?

The French Environmental Cost (commonly called the Eco-Score) is a mandatory environmental impact label for textile products sold to French consumers. It was established by French Decree 2025-957 and uses the government's open-source Ecobalyse methodology to calculate a per-product environmental impact score.

The score considers the full product lifecycle: raw material production, spinning, knitting or weaving, dyeing and finishing, transport, use phase (washing), and end-of-life. It accounts for fibre composition, manufacturing countries, product weight, and product category.

The score is expressed in environmental cost points — lower is better. Brands must display this score on products sold in France. The calculation methodology is transparent and open-source via the Ecobalyse API.

How Passportly calculates your Eco-Score

You enter the data once

The same product data you enter for your Digital Product Passport — fibre composition, manufacturing countries, product weight, product category — is exactly what the Ecobalyse API needs to calculate your Eco-Score.

No duplicate data entry. No separate spreadsheets. Fill in your DPP questionnaire and get your Eco-Score automatically.

We call the official API

Passportly maps your product data to the Ecobalyse input format and calls the French government's open-source API directly. The score you get is identical to what you'd calculate using the Ecobalyse tool yourself.

The score is stored on your product record and displayed on your DPP page. You can also optionally display it in your WooCommerce or PrestaShop store.

Who needs a French Eco-Score?

French textile brands

Any brand based in France selling textile products domestically. This is your home market regulation.

EU brands selling into France

German, Italian, Spanish, and other EU brands whose products are available to French consumers — online or in-store.

UK brands post-Brexit

UK brands exporting to France are third-country sellers. The regulation applies to the product on the French market, regardless of seller location.

US DTC brands shipping to Europe

American brands with French customers need compliance. If you ship to France, the Eco-Score requirement applies.

Australian exporters

Australian textile brands with EU distribution need both the Eco-Score (for France) and upcoming DPPs (for the full EU).

Marketplace sellers

If your products are listed on marketplaces accessible to French consumers, you need to provide the Eco-Score data.

What data do you need?

You already know this. It lives in your head, your supplier emails, and your certification documents. Passportly just asks you the right questions in the right order.

Fibre composition (e.g. 95% organic cotton, 5% elastane)
Product weight in grams
Product category (t-shirt, trousers, bedding, etc.)
Manufacturing countries for each production stage
Whether the fibres are recycled or virgin
Any relevant certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX)

Eco-Score now, DPP next — same data

The French Eco-Score and the EU Digital Product Passport use the same underlying product data. When you enter your material composition, manufacturing details, and certifications for the Eco-Score, you're already 70% of the way to a complete DPP.

This is why Passportly exists: one platform, one data entry, two regulatory outputs. Start with the Eco-Score because the deadline is sooner (October 2026). By the time the DPP requirement arrives (2027-2028), your data is already in the system.

Every competitor is positioning around the 2028 DPP deadline. We help you solve the problem that's urgent today.
